Camp KQ returns in 2019 to host the best Killer Queen tournament yet. Join us in Portland, Oregon on July 27-28, 2019, as we partner with Extra Life to raise money for OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
This year, Camp KQ's main event will take the form of a two-day draft mixer tournament, featuring some of the best players from around the country as team captains forming squads that will be revealed on game day. The goal is a competitive-but-fun format that focuses on making new friends as well as creating equal-strength teams, resulting in a showdown in which truly any players can win it all.
Camp KQ is also once again committed to offering a buffet of activities aside from Killer Queen to enjoy in the Oregon summer. From a camping trip to hikes to side tournaments, we recognize that the reason we travel across the country to play video games together is so much more than what can be found within an arcade. The Killer Queen tournament will take place at Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade, with select side events occurring at Kickstand Comedy Theater.
SCHEDULE
~ The Camp KQ schedule is mostly set but may fluctuate a bit depending on how things go during the weekend. We hope you understand. The Killer Queen tournament will occur at Ground Kontrol on Saturday and Sunday, while all other events are optional. ~
Friday, July 26:
• 8 pm: Drafts & Draughts @ Goin' Gaming in Troutdale. A Magic: The Gathering draft followed by Killer Queen free play from 9-11 pm as well as karaoke from 9 to midnight.
• All evening: Camping trip to Eagle Creek Campground in the Columbia River Gorge.
Saturday, July 27:
• 10 am: Doors open at Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade for registered tournament players only.
• 10:30 am: First reveal party at Ground Kontrol, as players from the first group learn which teams they will be playing with for the weekend.
• 11 am ~ 12:45 pm: The first group is underway, as those 12 teams play their four pool matches.
• 12:45 pm: Second reveal party at Ground Kontrol, as players from the second group learn which teams they will be playing with for the weekend.
• 1:15 pm ~ 3:15 pm: The second group is underway, as those 14 teams play their four pool matches.
• All afternoon/evening: Go swim and hang out on The Dock, or explore Portland, or go take a nap, or stay at GK for garbage KQ games, or play console or board games at Kickstand Comedy Theater. Do whatever you want, we're not your dad.
• 3:30 pm OR 20 minutes after the second pool is over, whichever is later:
Hikers meet up on the sidewalk across the street from Ground Kontrol to figure out rides and depart for Latourell Falls in the Gorge, set to return in the evening.
Magic: The Gathering draft tournament begins at Kickstand Comedy Theater.
• 7:30 pm ish: DeathBall and Killer Queen Black tournaments begin at Kickstand Comedy Theater.
• 1 am: Last call at Kickstand Comedy Theater as lock-in style slumber party begins. Go to sleep, please.
Sunday, July 28:
• 10:45 am: Opening ceremony announcements before final tournament begins. All fantasy brackets must be collected before first game starts.
• 11 am: Killer Queen tournament begins at Ground Kontrol in a double-elimination bracket format.
• 6 pm ish (who knows???): A winner is crowned.
